2 railway officers rape a woman at Bhopal station

A 22-year-old woman from Mahob, Uttar Pradesh was allegedly raped by two railway officers at Bhopal main station, informed the police officials. Prime accused Rajesh Tiwari (45 years old) befriended the woman on Facebook, lured her with employment opportunity, and called her to Bhopal, the woman confessed.

 As stated by the woman, when she arrived, Tiwari called her to the room on first floor of the West Central Railways’ office at Bhopal main station. He along with the second accused, his friend drugged her drink and raped her while she was unconscious. The woman registered a complaint at the Government Railway Police as soon as she regained her consciousness. The police acted immediately and caught hold of Rajesh Tiwari.

Bhopal Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Hitesh Choudhary said they have arrested the prime accused Rajesh Tiwari, security councellor and in charge of disaster management with the Bhopal division and detained the other railway staff accompliance.

“We have detained the other railway officer but we are waiting for the woman to identify him after which he would be arrested,” the SRP said.

Madhya Pradesh has been reporting the largest number of rape cases in India for several years now. As recorded by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) 5562 cases were registered in 2017. 54 survivors were below 6 years of age and 11 were 60. Almost 18 cases are registered every day. With this new case and every other the rate us only increasing signaling towards an alarming situation in the city and the state.
