At 3:30 am on 2nd December, a sand-laden truck overturned on a sports utility vehicle or SUV killing 8 people inside it in the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh. All of them were buried under the car and truck filled with sand. At least 2 more are reportedly still feared to be trapped beneath. The accident took place at Devi ganj intersection of Kadhadham Kotwali in UP’s Kaushambi. The passengers inside the SUV were returning from a marriage ceremony. The SUV, Mahindra Scorpio, was stationary when the truck overturned.
According to the Kaushambi District Magistrate- Amit Kumar Singh, a tyre of the truck had burst causing it to topple onto the car. Adding to that district magistrate said, “Seven people, including the driver, died immediately.” The 8th passenger, a woman, died in the district hospital while undergoing treatment. Majority of the deceased were women. Kaushambi DM Singh also assured that an inquiry into the incident is underway. The Kaushambi Police said that their personnel were on the spot looking into the matter and taking necessary actions.In a tweet, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath’s office informed that CM has directed officials to provide immediate relief to the survivors and family members of all those killed. The tweet read,“CM Adityanath has expressed grief at the death of all those killed in the Kaushambi road accident. He has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the peace of the departed souls.”
