Babar Azam leads Karachi Kings to maiden Pakistan Super League title

An unbeaten half-century by Babur Azam lead Karachi Kings into their maiden victory with 8 balls remaining.Karachi kings beat Lahore Qalanders by five wickets in the finals on Tuesday.

Karachi Kings had made to the playoffs in the first four editions of the tournaments but had never won the Edition. In fact, even after ending in the top four, they even failed to make it to the finals.

Azam raised his half-century with back to back boundaries against Pakistan premier pace bowler Shaheen Afridi and captain Imam Rashid hit the winning runs,a boundary through the covers.

Earlier Lahore’s lineup packed with power hitters was destroyed by  pace attack of lahore.Tamim Iqbal(35) and Fakhar zaman(27) opened with 68 but consumed half  of the overs.

Asif removed both openers within four balls, and when Mohammad Hafeez holed out,Lahore lost three wickets in space of two runs.

The match was originally planned to be played on 22nd March but got delayed due to corona pandemic

Karachi had a stable start, until Sharjeel Khan was dismissed by Patel in the fourth over via a catch to Fakhar. Alex Hales was bowled by Dilbar Hussain in the seventh over, with the scoreboard reading 49 runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Chadwick walton formed a crucial 61-run partnership off 8.1 overs with opener and star performer Babar Azam, until he too was dismissed LBW by Dilbar in the 16th over.

All the players are set to be rewarded. Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal will award an apartment to each player in the PSL-winning Karachi Kings team in his real estate development project ARY Laguna.
