The Board of Cricket for Control in India(BCCI) announced MPL sports,an E-sport platform,as the new kit sponsor and new merchandise sponsor of the Indian cricket team on Tuesday,November 17.
The three year deal starts from November itself to December 2023,starting with India’s forthcoming tour of Australia.Under the contract,MPL sports will design and manufacture jerseys for Men’s ,Women’s cricket team and Under -19 cricket team.
“The partnership leads us to a new frontier for Team India and sports merchandising in the country. We look forward to working with a young Indian brand like MPL Sports to tap the potential that this sphere holds. This partnership aims at facilitating access to high-quality Indian cricket fan merchandise, including the coveted Indian cricket team jersey for cricket fans not just in the country but globally” said Jay Shah, Secretary, BCCI
Earlier BCCI had invited bids for team kit sponsor and official merchandising after Nike’s five year contract came to an end this september.Nike had paid 370cr for the period between 2016-2020.
“We are delighted to announce the dawn of a new era for Indian cricket with the appointment of MPL Sports as the kit sponsor for the Indian men’s and women’s national cricket team until 2023. We look forward to MPL Sports adding a new chapter to the team’s kit, and bring Official BCCI licensed merchandise within easy and convenient reach for the billion-plus fans who cheer for Team India,” Sourav Ganguly, President, BCCI said.
BCCI’s association with the MPL sports is not for the first time.The MPL sports have been associated with IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively.
Commenting on the partnership,MPL sports senior Vice President Abhishek Madhavan said,”India is a market with a billion cricket fans and we see a lot of potential in the under- penetrated merchandise market in India.”
