Italian brand Schiaparelli is the talk of the town after the designer brand unveiled its new SPRING 2023 collection inspired by taxidermy. In the Paris Couture Week, Designer Daniel Roseberry brought his creations to life with hyper-realistic taxidermy pieces inspired by the wild. Inspired by the most majestic animals of the animal kingdom, models walking the runway donning (faux) decapitated heads of lions, snow leopards, wolves, and the plumage of peacocks.

In an interview with Vogue, Roseberry said that the collection was based on Dante’s Divine Comedy. “The animals are one of the four literary references I took from Dante’s Inferno. In the first cycle of Dante’s journey, he faces terrors. He confronts a lion, a leopard, and a she-wolf. They each represent different things,” he said about the collection. The animals of which there were lions, leopards, and wolves, represented a sin each – pride, lust, and greed respectively. Schiaparelli’s hallmark cinched waist lines were replaced with menswear with “hyper-feminine silhouettes”. The collection also showcased bustiers that went up to the models’ necks and the brand’s signature black & gilded looks.

What added to the eccentricity of it all were the looks sported by celebrities at the Paris Fashion Week show. From Kylie Jenner’s controversial lion head to singer Doja Cat’s headline-making Swarovski crystals, there were quite a few avant-garde moments on the red carpet. Here are some of the wildest looks during the Schiaparelli couture show.

1.   Diane Kruger’s £20,500 look

Actor Diane Kruger wore a Schiaparelli denim set printed with sketches of human anatomy and constellations. The skirt retails for 6,900 euros, the jacket 7,200 euros, and her lambskin handbag, 6,400 euros. The entire outfit retails for 20,500 euros, which is about 18 lakhs INR.

Kylie Jenner’s lion-head velvet gown from the Schiaparelli 2023 spring collection prompted a lot of backlash as animal rights activists accused her of promoting trophy hunting and animal abuse. However, the former KUWTK star wrote on her Instagram that the head was a “faux art creation constructed by hand using manmade materials.” Model Irina Shayk walked the runway with the same look.

3.   Doja Cat’s Crimson Swarovski crystals

American pop star Doja Cat was covered from head to toe in 30,000 Swarovski crystals as she made her appearance at the Schiaparelli show. The singer-songwriter spent nearly five hours on her make-up.
