Ben Stokes, the England all-rounder is set to join Rajasthan Royals in UAE for Dream 11 IPL 2020 tournament. Rajasthan Royals shared the news on twitter by uploading a picture of Stokes travelling to the UAE and captioned it as “stoked”. Stokes missed the earlier weeks of the tournament as he was in Christchurch with his ailing father. Before leaving for UAE, the top-notch Royal from Rajasthan team had earlier posted pictures on Instagram with his family captioning them as “goodbyes never get easier.” During his days in Christchurch he was seen practicing with the red ball. He captioned a post on Instagram at the Sydenham Cricket Club in Christchurch, “Wrong colour ball but training’s training.”
According to the IPL rules and BCCI’s Covid-19 protocols, Stokes will have to undergo six day quarantine on his arrival and after negative results of the Covid tests he can join the team. It is most likely that Stokes will be seen on field on October 11 against Sunrisers Hyderabad or if not then on October 14 against Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan Royals has been doing decently in the tournament so far but an all-rounder void in the team is still evident. The magical innings by Rahul Tewatia against KXIP opened his position as a promising all-rounder but with Ben Stokes the team will have more balance of polished batting line-up and wicket-taking bowling spells.
Ben Stokes was last seen in the England-Pakistan Test series where he was pulled out midway in order to be with his father who was diagnosed with cancer. It was a tough time for him as he told the Weekend Herald, “I didn’t sleep for a week and my head wasn’t really in it.” He added, “Leaving [the team] was the right choice from a mental point of view.”
