US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to be welcomed at the new Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. One a lakh people are expected to be in the arena for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event.
After a 22 km roadshow, passing the Sabarmati Ashram en route, Trump and Modi will be greeted by a packed stadium on Monday. In his tweets, the US President said that he is looking forward to the big public reception planned for him in Ahmedabad. Before starting his journey to India, Trump informed reporters outside the White House that he is looking forward to being with the people of India. As a friend of Prime Minister Modi, he is excited to greet millions of people during the scheduled trip.
The two leaders along with the first day, Melania Trump will give their speeches on the stage at Motera.
The program at Motera— the world’s largest cricketing arena, promises to outdo the exuberance of the ‘Howdy Modi’ program in Houston, Texas, during Modi’s US visit last year. Sportspersons, industrialists, NRIs and other prominent personalities will be at the gathering. Trump and Modi have schedules to engage with the audience for an hour.
This event is expected to boost Modi’s global stature and give Trump a chance to appeal to the Indian diaspora in the US, ahead of the presidential election there. More than 4 lakh Gujarat-origin community members live in the US.
Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani said, “Entire Gujarat speaks in one voice, Namaste Trump.”
The city has been decked with hoardings of Modi, Trump and the first lady, along with exotic flowers, transplanted trees, and walls paintings.
