G20 Education Ministers sat down together for a virtual meeting this Saturday. The objective of this meeting was to confer about and share experiences in three identified areas of Education Continuity in Times of Crisis, Early Childhood Education and Internationalization of Education, as said by the ministry. The meeting was held in virtual mode due to the ongoing Covid 19 crisis. The press release said, ” Education Ministers of G20 have resolved to work together and share best practices in the area of education so the member countries can ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote the lifelong opportunity of learning opportunities for all, even in the times of crisis.”
Union Minister of Education of India, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who was representing India, informed during the meet that the Government of India has been putting emphasis on these identified areas which can be observed in the introduction of the National Education Policy 2020. He goes on to say that the major objective of NEP is to revolutionize the education system in the country all the while alleviating the hurdles put up by the Covid 19 pandemic. He also assured the country’s dedication towards the collaboration with the G20 nations in the area of education.
At the end of the meeting, the education minister put out a communique which stresses upon the assurance for the continuity of education despite the current scenario, development of the quality of the education provided, the digital infrastructure, professional development for educators’ teaching methodology and such other significant related elements while acknowledging the value of distance learning and teaching.
The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to host this year’s G20 Leader’s Summit.
