The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti continued their “rail roko” protest in Amritsar, against the farm Bills passed in Parliament. The farmers were accompanied by their family members. They held demonstrations at the entry points of Amritsar including Tarn Taran road, India Gate, Pathankot Road.Sarwan Singh Pandher, the secretary of the committee in the state said that at 4 o’clock today, the core committee will have a meeting to decide the strategy for the coming days. He added that Bharatiya Janata Party workers are spreading rumours that the farmers are going to start ruckus today. He says that the situation is very wrong and the BJP workers are trying to stop them from protesting. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu joined the party’s protest on Wednesday in support of the farmers who were demonstrating the passage of agricultural reform bills in the parliament. Haryana, Odisha, and some other states witnessed such similar protests. Lok Sabha passed these bills this Thursday and SAD leader Sukhbir Harsimrat Badal, the Union minister for Food Processing Industries resigned in protest over these bills. The centre claims that these bills will help small and marginal farms. According to the party’s circular, farmers will be benefitted from the Agricultural Reform Bill and they would be given the freedom as our farmers were have been stuck in several kinds of bonds and face middlemen for decades. It will strengthen efforts to double the income of farmers and ensure their prosperity.The Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 were passed by Parliament on Sunday.
