S.Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs on September 17th at a press conference to mark 100 days of the Modi Government 2.0 said, the centre hopes to one day have full physical jurisdiction over Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). He further added that the international community was in support of India and understood the objectives behind the abrogation of Article 370.
In response to questions from journalists asking clarifications on remarks from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who had earlier said talks with Pakistan will be only on the PoK, not the abrogation of Article 370. The External Affairs Minister reiterated India’s firm stand on Jammu and Kashmir.
It was the first conference addressed by Jaishanker since assuming office in May, he presented the ministry’s work and said the key achievement of the work has been the strong connection between national security and foreign policy goals. He further added that India is now much stronger on the global state and its views on international issues such as terrorism are granted far more support.
Jaishanker in his statement also said, “Separatism helped cross-border terrorism from Pakistan.” He claimed the issue of terrorism should be the primary concern of all governments and be addressed on priority if talks are to take place on Kashmir. Referencing to Pakistan, he commented, “We have a unique challenge from one neighbour and that would remain a challenge so until that neighbour becomes a normal neighbour and acts against cross-border terrorism.” He also added that there is no country in the world which will conduct negotiations’ and settlements’ with a neighbouring nation which conducts terrorism.
