Kerala’s Finance minister, Dr.Thomas Isaac, 67, has tested positive for novel coronavirus on Sunday. This is the first time that a minister in Kerala is tested positive. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was under observation.
Many people working under the finance minister have been quarantined after the finance minister tested positive.
On Sunday, Kerala saw the highest spike with 3,082 people testing positive for the coronavirus. Due to this, the total case count in Kerala rose to 87,840, including recovered patients and those who are undergoing treatment.
It also comes to notice that 56 health workers have been tested positive with 10 more deaths, the toll rose to 348 in the state.
The health minister of Kerala, KK Shailaja, in a press release said that in the list of new patients, 56 reached the state from abroad, 132 from other parts of the country and 2,844 are the ones who contracted the disease by contact. The release also said that 2,196 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, the number of cured cases stands at 64,755 in the state.
The press release also holds the figures of people under treatment in the state – 22,676, people are being kept under observation and 17,507 are in isolation wards in various hospitals across the state.
Kerala has tested 41,392 samples in the last 24 hours. At present, there are 557 hotspots in the state.
