Lok Sabha 2019: Polls across 7 phases to begin April 11

The Election Commission of India, in a press conference earlier today (March 10), announced the schedule of the 2019 Lok Sabha Polls. Alongside that, several other announcements related to the polling were made by the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.

The election shall span slightly over 5 weeks, starting from April 11 and ending on May 19. The polling shall be held in 7 phases with around 90 crore voters eligible to vote in 543 seats. The Model Code of Conduct was enacted after the press conference.

Phase 1:

Date: April 11, 2019
91 seats across 20 states shall go to poll.
Andhra Pradesh (25), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Maharashtra (7), Manipur (1), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Odisha (4), Sikkim (1), Telangana (17), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (2), Andaman (2) and Lakshadweep (1).

Phase 2:

Date: April 18, 2019
97 seats across 13 states shall go to poll.
Assam (5), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (3), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Karnataka (14), Maharashtra (10), Manipur (1), Odisha (5), Tamil Nadu (39), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), West Bengal (3) and Puducherry (1).

Phase 3:

Date: April 23, 2019
115 seats across 14 states shall go to poll.
Assam (4), Bihar (5), Chhattisgarh (7), Gujarat (26), Goa (2), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Karnataka (14), Kerala (20), Maharashtra (14), Odisha (6), Uttar Pradesh (10), West Bengal (5) Dadar and Nagar Haveli (1) and Daman and Diu (1).

Phase 4:

Date: April 29, 2019
71 seats across 9 states shall go to poll.
Bihar (5), Jammu and Kashmir (1), Jharkhand (3), Madhya Pradesh (6), Maharashtra (17), Odisha (6), Rajasthan (13), Uttar Pradesh (13) and West Bengal (8).

Phase 5:

Date: May 8, 2019
51 seats across 7 states shall go to poll.
Bihar (5), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Jharkhand (4), Madhya Pradesh (7), Rajasthan (12), Uttar Pradesh (14) and West Bengal (7).

Phase 6:

Date: May 12, 2019
59 seats across 7 states shall go to poll.
Bihar (8), Haryana (10), Jharkhand (4), Madhya Pradesh (8), Uttar Pradesh (14), West Bengal (8) and Delhi-NCR (7).

Phase 7:

Date: May 19, 2019
59 seats across 8 states shall go to polls.
Bihar (8), Jharkhand (3), Madhya Pradesh (8), Punjab (13), West Bengal (9), Chandigarh (1), Uttar Pradesh (13) and Himachal Pradesh (4).

Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are the 3 states where the polling is spread across all 7 phases whereas Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled to have polling in 5 phases. Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra have polling across 4 phases. Among the comparatively quick draws, Assam and Chhattisgarh will have polling in 3 phases and Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan and Tripura shall finish up in 2 phases. All of the other states and Union Territories shall have single phase polls.

By-polls shall also be help alongside Lok Sabha Polls.

Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are set for assembly polls where Jammu and Kashmir shall not have any assembly polls.

The results of the elections and declaration of India’s fortune for a maximum of next 5 years shall be on May 23, 2019.
