‘Love Aaj Kal’ directed by Imtaiz Ali which was released on this Valentine’s day has failed miserably to attract the audience. The Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan-starrer had a promising opening of 12 crores this Friday. But the film witnessed a huge drop in its ticket sales and occupancy the following weekend., managing a weekend of around 26 crore.
The film is based on a romantic drama set in two time zones : 1990 and 2020. The film showed two interactive stories based on these time zones, the same concept was earlier used by Imtiaz Ali film in 2009 of the same name, the film was well-received by the audience and critics. And was a commercial success at the box office.
Poorly written plot and the storyline is said to be the main reason the film failed to connect with its audience. Many complained that the characters were too complicated and lacked depth. The movie failed to deliver what the director turned producer Imitaz Ali envisioned for the script.
Bollywood Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter ‘ Love Aaj Kal collapses on Twitter. The drastic fall doesn’t come as a surprise, since the trend was evident during its opening weekend’.
‘Love Aaj Kal’ failure at the box office created a halt in Kartik Aaryan Box office race as his last three releases witnessed commercial success at the box office. This box office fall out could also be a turning point for the first time director-producer Imtiaz Ali, who became an overnight success with Kareena and shahid kappor starrer Jab We Met, but it seems the last few years have been testing for Imtiaz, as his last two big budget films also failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a huge disappointment for both the producers and the audience. Randeep Hooda also starred in the movie and played the role of a cafe owner in the film. This was also Randeep Hooda’s second venture with Imtiaz after Highway which was critically acclaimed at the box office.
