Odia Actress Varsha Priyadarshini accuses husband, BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty of domestic violence

A prominent film actress in the Odia film industry, Varsha Priyadarshini has accused her husband Anubhav Mohanty- a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Deputy Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha from Kendrapara, of domestic violence.

Ms. Priyadarshini alleges that she was subjected to mental and physical torture by Mr. Mohanty, an actor-turned-politician from the past six years of their marriage.

She moved to the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Cuttack, where her case was filed under section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act against the lawmaker for allegedly harassing and assaulting her. She further accuses her husband of having multiple relationships with other women from the Odia film industry or Ollywood. Apart from this, she states that Mr. Mohanty was an alcoholic and used to abuse her after drinking. “He invites his friends to our bedroom and drinks with them. If I resisted, he would beat me up severely. He often asked me to leave his home,” Varsha said.

The actress has asked for a compensation of Rs. 13 crores, along with Rs. 2 crores for medical expenses and Rs. 70,000 as monthly alimony.

However, on the other hand, the actor-turned-politician claims that he has not received any legal notice from the court till now. He states “I have so far not received any legal notice regarding the case. I will let everyone know about it when I receive the notice. Let’s wait till then.”
