Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav, author Sudha Murthy and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain are announced to receive Padma Awards of 2023. President Draupadi Murmu has approved conferment of 106 awards this year. However, no  one is selected for Bharat Ratna.

Second Highest civilian honour Padma Vibhushan list includes late Mulayam Singh Yadav and Zakir Hussain among six people. The list also includes B V Doshi from Architectural field, former External Affairs Minister in the UPA government S M Krishna, Dilip Mahalanabis ,Srinivas Varadhan from Science and Engineering field. 

Infosys founder Narayan Murthy’s wife Sudha Murthy will be honoured with Padma Bhushan along with eight more recipients. The list includes S L Bhyrappa, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Deepak Dhar ,Vani Jairam, Swami Chinna Jeeyar, Suman Kalyanpur, Kamlesh D Patel and Kapil Kapoor. 

91 people are nominated  to be honored with Padma Shri this year. The list includes some of the prominent names namely M M Keeravani, whose music composition won the golden globes and recently got nominated for the academy awards, seasoned actor Raveena Tandon, late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and Manipur BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba Singh. Rani Machaiah, an 80-year-old linguistics professor from Telangana, B Ramakrishna Reddy, a Toto language keeper from Dhaniram Toto in West Bengal and a folk dancer from Kodagu in Karnataka, are also nominated for Padma Shri this year.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his Twitter handle tweeted “Congratulations to those who have been conferred the Padma Awards. India cherishes their rich and varied contributions to the nation and their efforts to enhance our growth trajectory. #PeoplesPadma.”

The Padma Awards are broadly divided into categories with Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan being the highest and second highest civilian honour, followed by Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
