A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed on Wednesday to nab Dilip after he robbed and killed three members of a family in Ratlam in the last week of November.

Dilip Dewal, 38, who was a resident of Dahod, Gujarat, died on the spot in the encounter that lasted a few minutes. Five police personnel, including two sub-inspectors, were also injured in the crossfire, according to the police.

Ratlam Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Tiwari told Hindustan Times, “An SIT of police got information on Thursday evening that Dilip was roaming near Khachrod square of the city. When police cordoned off the area and tried to nab him, he ran towards an agriculture farm. Police personnel warned him but he started firing. Police also retaliated and fired.”

The police team inspected the field after the gun battle had finished, and found Dewal lying there in an unconscious state, having been injured in the gunfire. Doctors declared that he was brought dead after has was rushed to a district hospital, the SP added.

While the nature of the injuries sustained by the five cops, including two sub-inspectors, Ayub Khan and Anurag Yadav, and three constables were not disclosed, the SP said that “all the five police personnel are admitted in the district hospital where doctors are treating them.”

After he killed three members of a family in their own home in Rajeev Nagar, Ratlam, and SIT was formed on Wednesday to nab the killer. The victims were Govind Solanki, along with his wife Sharda Solanki and daughter Divya Solanki. His accomplices were arrested on Wednesday, namely Anurag alias Anurag alias Bobby, Gaurav Bilwal alias Golu, both residents of Ratlam and Lala Bhabor, a resident of Dahod, Gujarat.

The killer has a long history of violence and many victims under his belt. The first case registered against him was for abducting and raping a woman in Ratlam in 2009. He was awarded life imprisonment in 2018 for killing two people in Dahod, Gujarat in 2018, including a high profile businessman. He jumped his parole for this sentence two years back.

After his brief stint in jail, he changed his name and settled in Ratlam, and resorted to looting people. His latest reported crime before this was the murder of a woman in June 2020 after he looted valuables from her house with the help of his two cousin brothers—21-years old Sumit Singh Chauhan and 27-years old Himmat Singh Dawal—who were also arrested on Wednesday.
