On Sunday, December 6, Pune Municipality Corporation (PMC) has declared six new containment zones in Pune following a sharp spike in the coronavirus cases. PMC washed out four zones that were in the containment zone list that had restrictions on the free movement of the people in those zones.
“The regions would remain in the containment zone list for two weeks, according to the civic body’s order. The fresh containment zones include areas of Kasba-Vishrambaugwada, Bhekrainagar, Sasanenagar in Hadapsar-Mundhwa, Kondhwa-Yeolewadi and Bibewadi,” said PMC.
Post-Diwali, Pune has noted a sharp spike in the number of the Covid-19 positives. PMC decided to add the areas in the containment zones list after recording the numbers for the past fortnight.
On November 4, the civic body had declared a last of 13 containment zones. On November, 21, it curtailed the number to six from 13. “The containment zones will be sealed with partial barricading of the streets to stop free movement of the people in and out of the area,” according to the civic body.
Pune district recorded 785 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the count to 3.57 lakhs. While Pune city noted 351 fresh coronavirus cases taking the city’s tally to 1,82,273.
