Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tests positive for COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t seem to end and has affected everyone starting from the laborers to actors to politicians across the country. Recently Union Minister Nitin Gadkari took to twitter to announce that he tested positive for Coronavirus and is isolating himself. He has also appealed to anyone who came in contact with him to undergo the COVID-19 testing procedures. 

Gadkari tweeted, ‘Yesterday, I was feeling weak and consulted my Doctor. During the course of my check-up, I have been tested COVID 19 positive. I am at present doing well with the blessings and good wishes of all. I have isolated myself.’ Gadkari is isolating at his residence in Nagpur and is expected to stay in isolation for a considerable amount of time. 

Gadkari is an addition to the list of ministers who tested positive for COVID-19 recently. Union Minister Amit Shah also tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered from AIIMS Delhi. Not everyone was lucky to surpass the illness though, Lok Sabha MP from Tirupati, Balli Durga Prasad, died of Covid-19. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Chennai. 

Media has reported that All parliamentarians and staff of the secretariats of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had undergone the mandatory Covid-19 tests before the start of the monsoon session. Representatives from the media covering the proceedings also underwent the test and at least one of them has tested positive.

According to records of the Parliament authorities, around 30 MPs and over 50 employees of the secretariats had tested positive for the infection to date
