The white house announced on the 10th February that President Donald Trump and his wife, the First Lady Melania Trump will visit India on the 24th and 25th of February 2020. The White House stated that it will be a two-part visit, to Ahmedabad Gujarat and New Delhi.

The reason behind picking as part of the visit Ahmedabad was because it is the home of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and because it played an important role in Mahatma Gandhi’s life.

The official statement from the White House Press Secretary said, “The President and The First Lady will travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad, which is in Prime Minister Modi’s home state of Gujarat and played such an important role in Mahatma Gandhi’s life and leadership of the Indian independence movement,”

“During the visit, President Trump and the First Lady will attend official engagements in New Delhi and Ahmedabad, Gujarat and interact with a wide cross-section of Indian society,” said the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the visit by releasing this statement.

The main reason behind this visit is to strengthen the bond between India and America. It is also important to develop a strategic partnership between the two nations. The preparations for the visit have already started in India. American Security forces have already arrived with their equipment and are getting ready for the visit.

A $2.6 billion defence deal is said to be a major part of the reason behind the trip. The deal is for 24 MH-60 Seahawk helicopters from Lockheed Martin, as per a report by Reuters. The two nations were unable to sign the agreement when they met at the United Nations General Assembly, therefore there are speculations that it is maybe done on the duration of this trip.
