On 15 January, an accident on Mumbai-Agra highway, Thane district took the lives of four people and injured fourteen. An auto-rickshaw lost its control due to a tyre burst and hit the divider, and rammed into a luxury bus, two cars and a tempo standing beside the divider, in the opposite lane.
The bus was going to Thane from Jalgaon as reported by Ganesh Sakle, manager of the company operating the bus. Four people, including two women, one child died on the spot when the auto hit the bus. The deceased are Vrunda Piyush Patil(31), Piyush Patil(33)from Badlapur and Rohini Hyalinge(27) from Kalyan, who was six months pregnant and her daughter Sai(3) is gravely injured. The accident occurred near Khinavli Bridge in Gotheghar village, Shahapur taluka around 4:15 am.
Officials and emergency services providers reached the location after the incident took place.The injured people were brought to the Ulhasnagar Central and Thane Civil Hospital, Shahapur sub-hospital, it is reported that three of them are in serious condition.
Police mentioned that the dead bodies were sent for the post-mortem and after the examination Dr Salman Sheikh revealed that the cause of the death was haemorrhagic shock. Authorities are providing health care to the injured and will give updates on the three people who are in critical condition. So far, 11 people have been discharged after receiving good first-aid.
The accident caused a short-term traffic jam for a few hours. However, rescue teams and police officials arrived on time and managed everything. The rescue operation was supervised by Deputy Superintendent Milind Shinde, Inspector Jitendra Thakur, and Assistant Police Inspector Shivkumar Jadhav. The traffic caused problems to daily commuters but it was resolved after some time. Jitendra said, “The auto-rickshaw driver was rash driving at full speed. Further, a probe is going on.”
