The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for five days in several states like Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
Due to the rise of water levels in the Yamuna River, Delhi is currently in a flood-like situation. Himachal Pradesh has witnessed severe flash floods and landslides and will continue to have scattered “heavy” rainfall.
The meteorological office has four colors for rain alerts. “Green” indicates everything is well, “Yellow” means heavy rains and bad weather; “Orange” means there is a warning for extreme rainfall and bad weather causing problems to everyone; and “Red” means extreme weather conditions and a significant risk to life.
IMD has issued a “Yellow” alert for Delhi. “There would be generally cloudy skies with moderate rain and thundershowers,” said IMD.
Weather forecast by IMD:
1. For the next five days, Delhi and its surrounding districts are anticipated to have low to moderate rainfall. Haryana is also likely to experience moderate rainfall.
2. A “Yellow” and “Orange” alert has been set for districts in Maharashtra. Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and Thane will experience moderate rain, while Palghar will be on “Yellow” alert. Some of the other places will have moderate rainfall as well. The “Yellow” alert will start on July 18. “Orange” alerts have been issued to Raigad and Ratnagiri since July 17.
3. Rajasthan and Himachal will witness occasional “heavy” rains for the next five days, but Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been forecast to experience “very heavy” rainfall.
4. IMD added that rainfall will intensify across Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Goa, while Madhya Pradesh will experience periodic “heavy” rains.
5. Rainfall in the Sub-Himalayan regions, West Bengal and Sikkim, will be widespread and range from “heavy to very heavy.”
6. While Jharkhand will experience “heavy” rainfall from 15-17, Bihar might only experience on 17.
