WhatsApp’s privacy campaign led to the first-ever anamorphic installations at the Gateway of India, in Mumbai. The interactive 3D installation exhibit used local imagery and cultural symbols such as the red post box, kaali peeli taxi, and the pigeons we see at the Gateway, and integrated all of them seamlessly into their awareness program.
The initiative is aimed at educating the common public about significant features of WhatsApp such as end-to-end encryption, disappearing messages, two-factor authentication, silencing unknown callers and other privacy controls. Besides the heritage spot, this campaign also took to social media, print and broadcast platforms all across India.
“Privacy is at the core of everything we do at WhatsApp and we’re excited to see the next phase of our privacy campaign light up the Gateway of India and raise user awareness around WhatsApp privacy features and multiple layers of protection,” said Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President at Meta India, to Indian Express.
As part of the campaign announcement in June, WhatsApp is set to launch fresh features in the market like on-ground activation with mirrored messages in a collaborative effort with Bollywood star Anushka Sharma. The installation will be open from August 23rd to 25th for public viewing at the Gateway of India.
