Call for preparations have been made by the Israeli Army to its soldiers for a ground invasion of Lebanon. After the militant group, Hezbollah struck Israel with its biggest strike yet to counter the Israeli airstrikes, Israel has taken this call for invasion in this context.

On 25 September 2025, Hezbollah attacked Israel’s capital Tel Aviv with dozens of projectiles and a missile. It has been recorded as the group’s deepest strike since the start of Gaza war. This attack came after Israel’s airstrikes which claimed to be aimed at Hezbollah’s weapon stores in the southern and eastern parts of Lebanon.

Owing to these airstrikes, Israel’s Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi allegedly informed the soldiers on the border with Lebanon to be ready for a ground invasion against Hezbollah.

To further discuss this escalating conflict and the violence and losses it is leading to, the United Nations Security Council sat for an urgent meeting on 25 September 2024. France called for an urgent meeting and took the opportunity along with the United States of America to discuss the concerns over the war and the attempts being made by both countries towards temporary control of the conflict. As per the data released by the UN, over 90,000 Lebanese people were displaced over five days due to the airstrikes by Israel. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke about the seriousness of the issue, urging for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon before the issue goes out of hand.

Talking about its attempts for control, the U.S. informed the UN Security Council that they are in the works for a temporary ceasefire that will ensure a reduction in skirmishes and tensions. The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also took the opportunity to request both the conflicting nations to stop the war which could prove to be more devastating if escalated.

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot mentioned that France and the U.S. are working together on a 21-day ceasefire proposal so that this period could be used for further negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah.

Amidst all the discussions for ceasefire and negotiations, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon expressed Israel’s openness to all attempts that could curb further escalation. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for the UNSC to take immediate action in this matter to ensure that Israel withdraws from the Lebanese territories and this is not repeated.

In this context, an advisory has been released by the Indian embassy in Beirut urging Indian nationals not to travel to Lebanon and the ones in Lebanon to leave the country for safety purposes.
