Tesla Inc. has started to hire in India, indicating its intention to enter the market soon after CEO Elon Musk meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States. A LinkedIn post revealed the electric vehicle manufacturer has listed job openings for 13 positions across Mumbai and Delhi.

The positions have opened for roles including customer-facing and back-end positions for roles like advisory, customer engagement managers, service technicians and delivery operations specialists.

After the latest government policy changes, the Indian market has become an attractive market where the basic customs duty on EV cars above $40,000, has been deprecated from a staggering 110% to 70%, significantly making Tesla consider entering India.

Where India’s EV market is still budding compared to China or Norway, Tesla’s entry in India is a good way to check and analyse its slowing sales after its first annual drop in EV sales in over a decade. In comparison with China, India’s EV sales neared just 100,000 units with China’s sales rising upto 11 million.

During the recent meeting between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump in Washington, Trump claimed that Modi agreed to negotiate to address the US trade deficit boost and US military purchases. The talk between Elon Musk and Modi discussed a broader trade exchange between the countries where they delved with reducing trade barriers and increasing US military sales including F-35 fighter jet deals.

Subsequently, interested candidates can apply for the job through Tesla’s official ‘Careers’ website by selecting their preferred job roles and filling out the essential details. Users can also apply through Tesla’s LinkedIn page which will redirect them to the official Tesla website.
