Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, issued orders for state cyber police to petition Wikipedia about removing controversial content that describes Sambhaji Maharaj. State cyber police have been ordered by Devendra Fadnavis to seek Wikipedia removal of objectionable historical content after ‘Chhaava’s’ release and subsequent organization complaints about Wikipedia’s historical inaccuracies.
Fadnavis declared that the state will not allow history distortions on Wikipedia because these open-source platforms should remain trustworthy. The Inspector General of Maharashtra cyber cell has my instruction to reach out to Wikipedia officials about eliminating the objectionable content. The freedom of historical accuracy will no longer be accepted on open-source platforms which display facts in an incorrect manner he declared to journalists.
The head of state agreed that Wikipedia functions at a global level under volunteer editors who maintain command of the content material. The organization operates worldwide while its content editing functions as a volunteer-based system without Indian headquarters. The minister stated that his administration will ask Wikipedia to devise rules which stop historical facts from being distorted.
The renowned online encyclopedia Wikipedia enables every user worldwide to modify its content. Wikipedia has received criticism since it operates as an open-source platform because users frequently provide inaccurate or biased content through its articles. The state government of Maharashtra made this move because they share widespread concerns about unfactual historical content found on such digital platforms.
The issue of social media regulation extends beyond border lines presented a major difficulty to Fadnavis during his discussion. Social media exists outside of any geographical boundaries. He stated the state would talk about this issue during meetings with the Union government. The freedom to speak extends beyond certain boundaries according to him. Lawful steps for intervention become possible once obscenity exceeds its tolerable boundaries.
Additionally, Fadnavis addressed concerns regarding unauthorized sharing of cabinet agenda documents before official meetings. “I have instructed the offices of ministers not to share cabinet agendas beforehand. If this continues, I will be forced to take action. Do not break the law,” he warned.
The state government’s move underscores its commitment to preserving historical accuracy while navigating the complexities of digital platforms and social media regulations.
The latest cabinet meeting opened with Fadnavis assuring public officials that unauthorized distribution of agenda documents was no longer happening before cabinet seminars took place. I have informed all ministerial offices they should abstain from distributing cabinet agenda details in advance. The situation demands immediate response so I will be required to intervene. He instructed the officials to avoid illegal conduct.
The governmental shift indicates the government’s dedication to accuracy in history alongside effective management of digital platforms and social media standards.
