Just a day after her remarks criticizing Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao suspended party MLC and daughter K. Kavitha on Tuesday, September 2. The former Chief Minister of Telangana made this decision, referring to the two leaders as “close” allies.

The drastic measure was announced by the party’s secretary general, S Bharat Kumar, on X (formerly Twitter). In the statement, he called Kavitha’s recent behaviour “anti-party” and “damaging the BRS.” Hence, the party has taken the decision to suspend her with “immediate effect.”

A day before her suspension, Kavitha turned several heads when she openly blamed the senior leaders for tarnishing her father, KCR’s image. She accused her cousins, former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao, former Rajya Sabha member J. Santosh Rao, and Congress Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of conspiring against KCR to portray him as a corrupt.

The Telangana government has initiated a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram irrigation project. A government-constituted commission will investigate the corruption in the construction of the project, such as the alleged irregularities, misuse of public funds. Supreme Court Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose will monitor it.

On August 22, Kavitha, who was formerly the president of Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), was removed from the position with no prior notice. The 46-year-old politician alleged that her removal was politically motivated and that party insiders are conspiring against her. She stated that a “grudge” was held against her after she questioned the party’s way of functioning.

She spoke on the corruption allegations that had emerged against her father and alleged that people within the party misused his name. She added that KCR’s image is only getting damaged due to others’ actions. She further name-dropped Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar and claimed that they played a part in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project’s decline.
