The Indian Army neutralized an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Mehender sector of Poonch district on 1st September, Sunday. The attempt of intrusion has coincided with Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the capital Jammu to assess the damages caused by the heavy rain and flash floods last month.
Around 5:30 AM, troops of White Knight Corps in the general area of Balakot detected a suspicious movement near LoC, and immediate action was taken by the alert troops preventing the infiltration attempt by doing open fire. “Own troops have been repositioned and re-oriented to ensure foolproof domination of the area using all the available means. Currently troops are maintaining high alert in their respective areas” was stated by an white knight corps army in a post on X platform.
An intense firing between the two sides picked up again when the army search parties moved closer to the scene of the previous encounter. One of the assigned officials stated that a movement of terrorists was detected that they were trying to trespass into the country from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir; this movement was picked up near Dabbi village of Balakot in the early hours of the day, leading to the first encounter. The infiltrators tried to flee from the location after facing the heavy firing, but reinforcements were rushed in and the whole area is now isolated for a thorough search.
With security tightened across the union territory, authorities are keeping a close watch on border areas while also focusing on restoring normalcy in the flood affected area.
