The nomination list for the 68th Grammy Awards (to be held on February 1, 2026) has dropped, and hip-hop heavyweight Kendrick Lamar once again commands centre stage. Leading the way for this year is a musician who received nine nominations, ranging from the major categories of Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year to various rap and pop genres.

The nominated album of Lamar, GNX, has now become his fifth consecutive studio album that has been considered for Album of the Year; such an unusual string has been recognized in Grammy history. If he gets the award, he will be the only third rap artist to win that top prize.

Following very closely, Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff and Cirkut received seven nominations each, prediction of strong presence for both artists and producers. Gaga’s accomplishments this year are particularly remarkable: for the first time in her career she is present in the three major categories at once (Album, Song and Record).

Antonoff and Cirkut–both with seven nominations–indicate the increasing attention to production talent and cross-genre collaborations. Antonoff, who has worked with both Lamar and pop star Sabrina Carpenter, is also nominated for Producer of the Year and could tie an all-time record for wins in that category.

Cirkut is also part of the high-profile nominations for his production on Gaga’s work and the tracks by Rosé & Bruno Mars.

Bad Bunny (with six nominations) and Sabrina Carpenter and Leon Thomas (with six each) are other major nominees. The nomination list has also shown great stylistic diversity with the artists coming from different genres such as rap, pop, electronic, and k-pop. For instance, Rosé from the K-pop fandom is nominated for the Record of the Year category alongside Bruno Mars.

On the main categories:

• Record of the Year including tracks like Gaga’s “Abracadabra”, Lamar & SZA’s “Luther”, Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild”.

• Album of the Year has Gaga’s MAYHEM, Lamar’s GNX, Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos, Justin Bieber’s SWAG, Tyler the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA, Leon Thomas’ MUTT, and Clipse’s Let God Sort Em Out.

• Song of the Year also shows the variety of genres with such submissions as “Abracadabra”, “Anxiety” by Doechii, “Golden” (from a K-pop styled act), “Manchild”, “Luther”, and “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish. This year’s nominations speak to the evolving landscape of popular music, where genre boundaries continue to blur, producers claim increasing visibility, and artists from diverse backgrounds rise into contention. With nominations now open and voting underway, all eyes will be on February 1 in Los Angeles to see who converts these nominations into wins.
