Andhra Pradesh has planned to carry out a skill census, the first of its kind in India with the purpose to analyze the youth’s capabilities and enhance employment opportunities.
The drive is being implemented on pilot basis where the survey had begun in Mangalagiri Constituent Assembly segments on Tuesday, 1st October 2024. Hundred villages in the Mangalagiri assembly segment are to be focussed initially.
An app created specifically for mobile devices will let enumerators carry out the talent census. According to N Lokesh Naidu, Minister of Education, IT, and Electronics, the process is being carried out to determine the youth’s skills and provide them with the required training before offering them greater work prospects.
The Mangalagiri Assembly segment’s 100 villages will be the starting point of the experiment, and the village secretariats there have already been granted access to the smartphone app. In order to collect data, 675 enumerators will visit 1,61,421 families, of which 1,35,914 are in the Mangalagiri segment and 25,507 are in the Thullur mandal.
The required instruction on using the mobile app and carrying out the skill census has been given to the enumerators. According to officials, a technical team has been assembled to support the field teams, and the mapping process has already been finished.
The Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation’s headquarters officials would be keeping a careful eye on the census’s progress. Official sources claim that any issues discovered during the pilot project will be fixed before the exercise is carried out over the entire state.
