Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday, that 18 infiltrators from Bangladesh have been repatriated. He claimed that measures are being implemented to prevent illegal immigrants from returning to the State.

The Chief Minister revealed that the State government has decided to enforce the Illegal Expulsion Act, 1950. The Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950 empowers the government to expel unlawful immigrants from Assam, specifying procedures for their identification and removal. The law provides the power to require the expulsion of immigrants from Assam whose presence negatively affects the public interest

The Chief Minister stated that Individuals recognized as foreigners by the District Commissioners will be returned without having their cases presented to the (Foreigners) Tribunals. He also stated that a constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court determined that the Illegal Expulsion Act was active and that the government had the authority to address foreigners or illegal immigrants according to its terms.

The Chief Minister stated that the government had identified approximately 2,600 Facebook accounts managed from Islamabad in Pakistan and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia that are aimed at the native people of Assam, along with concentrating on another subject — Palestine.

In a twitter post, the honorable Chief Minister mentioned that they had reviewed the feedback on their earlier posts regarding the pushbacks, where individuals proposed numerous ideas. They guaranteed that all measures were being taken in line with protocol to prevent the infiltrators from reentering Assam. He also said that “18 of them PUSHED BACK last night,”.  Mr. Sarma mentioned in a post on X that whereas some addressed kangaroos, they had to confront different matters. He mentioned that their watch stayed robust as they had sent back another 13 illegal infiltrators, who were caught in Barpeta, to Bangladesh.

Assam Police has initiated a statewide operation against illegal immigrants, especially Bangladeshi citizens living without proper documentation. Over 450 claimed infiltrators have been expelled in recent months.
