An incident of firing was reported on the border region of the Northeastern states of Assam and Nagaland. This tragedy happened during the night of Friday, that is 32 January 2025 and it certainly left the residents of this locale in a state of shock. The location of this fire is confirmed to be in Mariani’s Gabhoru hills, at a tea garden.
According to many sources, the people woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of a round of bullets. However, when the situation was investigated, they could not find anything during the initial hours. Since the search was conducted first at night, another investigation was opened in the morning. The forest officials quickly jumped into action and looked for any evidence such as shell casing, in connection with the firing.
A forest official made the statement that, “We received a call from the locals and immediately reached the scene. But it was dark, we could not find anything, and now we have begun another search operation to find any empty bullet shells”.
Tensions between Assam and Nagaland have persisted, with alleged land encroachment by Naga residents being a key issue. A forest official stated, “The firing might have been done by Naga people. We spend nights in fear, unsure when another incident might occur.”
Apart from the reports from the forest officials, the folks of Assam also added to the commentary and stated that the firing might have been the doing of the Naga people. Commenting on the incident, a local stated that, “The firing might have been done by the Naga people. We have to spend the nights in fear as to when another such incident might occur in the bordering area.”
Alongside talking to the locals, the police have also located the area of the firing and have started investigating the origins of the firing. A little while earlier, a similar yet more heated situation took place in Jorhat’s Seleng Hat area. Many residents feared for their safety and inquired about their concerns over the alleged land encroachment issues.
