The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a third consecutive win in Haryana as the victory is set to make a major political impact on the North Indian state.
The BJP is led by CM Nayab Singh Saini in Haryana, which has crossed the majority with 48 seats. Though it was projected based on the exit polls that the BJP might lose this feat, their victory comes as a boost for the party. Saini made a strong remark on the polls stating that the BJP will form its government on the 8th of October while the Congress will again point fingers at the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machine), in reference to past disputes between the parties over voting technology.
With securing 37 seats, Congress expressed disappointment as the final results were published. Congress leader and two-times Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, though was initially optimistic about the party’s comeback, expressed the fact that he was disheartened by the same.
The BJP managed to retain its voter base with its campaign on governance, merit-based jobs and welfare schemes despite Congress’s attempt to highlight issues such as the farmer’s distress, unemployment and inflation. To ensure proper security, in addition to 12,000 police personnel, 30 CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) companies were also deployed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself took to ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter, to express his gratitude and happiness for the victory stating that this was a “Victory of the politics of both development and progress”. PM Modi also acknowledged the hard work of the party workers which resulted in this victory.
Commenting on the victory, the ex-Union Minister and BJP leader Anurag Thakur expressed his thoughts on how the people of Haryana have accepted the policies laid down by the BJP and rejected those of Congress. As the party celebrates its third consecutive win, Congress has alleged foul play in the process and decided to reach out to the election commission for the same.
As the political landscape takes its shape in the constituencies of Haryana, BJP’s success in the state shows its stronghold despite the predictions that can have implications for the upcoming elections in Delhi, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
