The eagerly awaited movie ‘Ghallughara,’ directed by Honey Trehan and starring Diljit Dosanjh, is battling against the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The CBFC has imposed 21 cuts on the film, which eliminates nearly 90 percent of the whole film.
‘Ghallughara’ endeavors to bring attention to the life and contributions of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a key figure in exposing human rights abuses during the insurgency era of Punjab in the 1990s. The CBFC’s choice to enforce numerous cuts signifies their apprehension regarding the film’s content and its possible social and political implications within the state and among the general public.
According to reports, Ronnie Screwvala’s production company, RSVP Films, has lodged an appeal with the Bombay High Court under section 5C of the Cinematograph Act. The appeal contests the imposed edits in the film, asserting that they infringe on the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression.
Actor Diljit Dosanjh has been known for his involvement in issue-based politically-charged biopics. In ‘Ghallughara’, he can be seen playing the lead role of Jaswant Singh Kalra. Diljit’s commitment to portraying such socially relevant characters has garnered acclaim. But the fate of ‘Ghallughara’ hangs still in the balance.
