China will impose 10 per cent-15 per cent of extra tariffs to goods imported from the United States. This will be applicable to the imports from the US starting from 10th March, 2025. This decision can be an after effect of the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump doubling the duties on imports from China to 20 per cent and also increased the tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods to 25 per cent.
The products from the United States coming into Chinese markets like soybeans, fruits, vegetables, pork, aquatic products, beef, sorghum, and dairy products will be facing tariffs around 10 per cent. According to the Finance Minister of China, Mr. Lan Fo’an, 15 per cent of tariff will only be imposed on products like wheat, cotton, corn and chicken
Canada also followed China and increased the tariffs on the goods from the United States. Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. Justin Trudeau stated that if Mr. Trump goes along with such plans, Canada will take about 25 per cent tariffs on the goods imported from the United States of America that are worth of 30 billion Canadian dollars.
To this increase in tariff by the United States, Mexico reacted as if they were expecting this news and was prepared to handle the situation. The President of Mexico, Mr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that they have a plan B, C and D.
The President of US, Mr. Trump during his debate with Ms. Kamala Harris said that the first government under his guidance, imposed tariffs on Chinese goods which was later removed by the government under Joe Biden.
Keeping aside international relations, Mr. Trump is also being criticised by some people for his controversial viewpoints, announcements and decisions like stating that there will be only two genders in America. This statement led to hurting the feelings of the LGBTQ community.
