One more body was discovered in a pond on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the explosion at the illegal fireworks factory in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district to nine, according to a senior police officer, according to news agency PTI.

The officer reported that one suspect was taken into custody in relation to the incident. He asserted that on Monday, all was calm at the Moshpole at Nilgunj, which is inside the borders of the Duttapukur police station. According to the officer, who also said that one hand and two fingers were found in the area surrounding the explosion scene, the decapitated corpse was recovered from a pond, while the head was discovered in the courtyard of an adjacent property.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, a leader in the Congress, commented on the explosion at the Duttapukur firecracker factory, saying: “After witnessing the scenario here, I can tell that it’s not firecracker (burst); there are some other things which police doesn’t want to divulge. It should be carefully looked into, according to ANI. He claimed that during the night, authorities investigated and detained one person they believed to be the partner of the owner of the illegal fireworks operation. According to the officer, the man was detained under the Explosives Act of 1884 and the Explosives Rules of 2008, and three people had been the subject of a suo moto complaint in relation to the occurrence.

“Search efforts went on throughout the night. However, it was difficult for us to perform the searches and our investigation due to the absence of power in the area and the massive amount of debris that was dispersed. The senior police officer of the Barasat Police District told PTI over the phone, “We have detained one individual who was the business partner of the man running the unit.

He said that one Murshidabad-area family accounted for five of the bombing’s nine fatalities. The officer was reported by PTI in its report as saying, “Their family members arrived here this morning and identified the bodies at the morgue.” On Monday morning, a team from the West Bengal State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights arrived in Duttapukur and spoke with locals and the investigators.

“We came here because a few kids were hurt in the explosion. To learn more about what truly transpired and how these kids were involved in the explosion, we are engaging with the police and the locals, the Commission official was quoted by PTI in its report. The illegal fireworks factory in the North 24 Parganas region experienced a burst at 8:30 on Sunday when employees were working there.

The bomb’s effects were so severe that it partially damaged over 50 homes in the neighborhood and left human parts on the terraces of other structures. The owner of the illegal fireworks factory and his son, who was also a member of the unit, were reportedly murdered in the incident. The remaining half of the building, which contained the illegal fireworks unit, was demolished and the area was cleaned up of rubble using JCB machines, the officer claimed. Many locals complained that after they reported the illegal fireworks unit to the police, nothing happened.

The TMC and BJP spat shortly after the explosion, with the saffron party calling for an NIA investigation and the Trinamool requesting the BJP to stop engaging in “vulture politics.”
