Amidst the severe waterlogging and flood in Delhi, a political blame game has erupted between the AAP and BJP, as both parties have begun accusing each other of being responsible for the unprecedented situation in the nation’s capital.
AAP’s allegations:
- Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Health Minister of Delhi, claimed that there was a conspiracy by the BJP-led Centre and Haryana government, blaming them for intentionally releasing water toward the national capital.
- Strongly denying the allegations, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij responded, “All the villages and cities on the banks of the Yamuna have received the same amount of water. Why would we deliberately release water in our districts?”
BJP’s attack:
- The BJP criticized the AAP, claiming that the lack of action and alleged corruption within the government led by Arvind Kejriwal was to blame for the floods in the nation’s capital.
- On Saturday, the BJP launched a barrage of criticisms against the AAP government, demanding that Kejriwal apologize to the public for the perceived failure in handling the situation.
- In a press conference, Gaurav Bhatia, spokesperson for the BJP, along with party MP Parvesh Verma, accused the Kejriwal government of neglecting the desilting of the Yamuna for the past eight years.
- “The AAP and Kejriwal are big on making excuses, corruption, and inaction. Just like they blamed the Centre and other states during the Covid-19 pandemic and for pollution, they were now accusing Haryana of flood in Delhi,” Bhatia said.
As heavy rains persist and the Yamuna River surpasses the danger mark of 205.33 meters, flood-like conditions in Delhi persist. Although there are reports of the water receding, numerous areas of the national capital remain submerged.
