Pune: Around 30 people lost their lives due to the cloudburst and heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir. These excessive rains caused flash floods that led to a landslide near the Vaishno Devi Shrine. These floods also caused damage to the infrastructure in the Kashmir Valley.
This landslide follows the previous cloudburst that impacted the Chisoti area of Kishtawar district. On route to the Machail Mata temple, this village stands as the last motorable area on that journey. This incident had taken place on 14th August 2025 and led to the deaths of 65 people and left over a 100 pilgrims injured.
The Vaishno Devi yatra has been suspended and the authorities are trying to set precautionary measures. According to officials, the landslide hit at 3 a.m on the areas near Indraprastha Bhojanalaya at Ardhkuwari which is on the way to the Vaishno Devi shrine, leading to 22 trains to halt their services, until further notice
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Jammu Division for the Northern Railways has mentioned, “Twenty seven trains have been short-terminated on Tuesday. This has been done in view of the prevailing weather conditions in the region.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has contacted the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to brief him about the continuous rains and landslides in Jammu. CM Abdullah has raised points about the damage caused and safety measures that must be taken.
