A Bangladesh Nationalist Party Leader was killed after being brutally beaten by rivals. This incident took place in Dhaka and the police mentioned that all this conflict took place in front of the leader’s family.
The Daily Star Bangladesh mentioned in a report that the former vice-president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Kulla union unit, Mohammad Babul Mia was attacked and killed while he and his wife were practicing the harvest of mustard near Akshirnagar Housing of Dhamrai upazila on Friday afternoon.
Yasmin Begum, Mohammad Babul’s wife, mentioned that many of the village folks held a long-standing grudge against Babul and that the matter of dispute over the real estate coverage and business of Akshirnagar Housing wasn’t something new.
She said, “Although my husband was not involved in the matter, local criminals Afsar, Arshad, and Monir had been threatening both of us for days. They beat him with sticks and SS pipes, seriously injuring him. They even gouged out both his eyes. When I and some locals tried to intervene and take him to a hospital, they stopped us.”
She further mentioned that, “Only after he became unconscious did they leave the place.”
After this chaotic incident, Mohammad Babul was soon taken to the nearest hospital of Savar Enam Medical College Hospital, this where the doctors took to quickly examining him. However, due to severe injuries they later declared him dead.
One of the doctors working in the emergency unit, Ejaz, mentioned that Babul was brought into the unit at around 3:30 PM. It was clearly visible that he had faced terrible trauma especially with injuries to the head, face, eyes and legs. The doctor also mentioned that till the time that Mohammad Babul was brought in, he was already unconscious.
In regards to the criminals involved in instigating and conducting such vile acts, the officer-in-charge at the Dhamrai Police Station, Monirul Islam, mentioned that certain primary investigations suggested that Babul was killed over some persisting disputes.
The police official further said that, “Preparations are underway to recover the body from the hospital and send it to the morgue.”
The other police officers have also been informed of the situation and they have started taking action to arrest those responsible for killing Babul. Yasim Begum also said that she will be registering an FIR over this dispute.
