In a shocking incident earlier today, a major fire erupted in the MNGL (Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited) pipeline located near Nala Park on Salunke Vihar Road. The blaze quickly spread, causing panic among the residents and passersby.
Promptly responding to the emergency, a team from MNGL and fire brigade officials rushed to the spot. “Five firefighting vehicles, including two water tankers, have rushed to the spot. The fire was reported to us at 12:07 p.m.,” said a fire brigade official of the PMC.
The intensity of the fire was so fierce that it resulted in the destruction of a vehicle in its vicinity. The flames posed a grave threat to the surrounding area, prompting immediate action by the fire brigade.
Sandeep Jagtap, a social activist from Wanowrie, immediately notified the MNGL representative to shut off the gas supply until the fire is extinguished and necessary precautions are taken before resuming the supply. An MNGL official confirmed to Pune Pulse that a team has been dispatched to the site to control the fire, and further action will be taken accordingly.
Sahil Kedari, Vice President of the OBC Cell in Maharashtra Congress, reported that a vehicle was also damaged in the incident. The Fire and MNGL team were informed about the incident for further action.
The Pune Fire Brigade Department revealed that the fire was triggered by a gas leak from the MNGL pipeline. Five fire tenders from the Kondhwa Fire Station swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the blaze. The incident caused a temporary halt in traffic, leaving residents and commuters astonished. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Efforts are underway to swiftly extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the damage. Authorities will thoroughly investigate the incident to determine the cause and prevent such incidents in the future.
