WhatsApp will soon enable users to start tagging people in their status updates. This new update is aimed at enhancing user engagement as it will be possible to reach specific users through status posts. With the acquisition of WhatsApp by Meta, this feature is implemented to enable users to engage with their contacts easily whenever they wish to post their photos, videos and texts in their status.

Here’s how it works

The tag feature allows WhatsApp users to mention their contacts in their status updates in a way that is similar to Instagram. There will be a specific mention button in the caption bar when users upload a photo or a video which will come in handy when they want to tag a contact in their status. If they receive a Mention, it makes communication easier. A mentioned user will be both notified about these messages and also see a notification on their user’s status in the messaging application.

What sets WhatsApp’s version apart is that the person mentioned in the status will know about it—other people who see the status won’t know who was tagged. This keeps things private for both the person who posted the status and the person who was mentioned.

In addition to this, WhatsApp will also add a new “reshare” button on the status screen, so users can spread content they find interesting or useful. But unlike Instagram when someone shares a status update, you can’t see who posted it. This means that people who see the shared status won’t be able to contact the original poster, which keeps things more private.

Meta AI’s Voice personalisation feature

WhatsApp is also working to make its Meta AI better. A recent report stated that Meta AI will soon let you choose from different voice options, which will make using it more personal. The user will be able to pick from three UK voices and two US voices, so they can find one that matches their accent or just sounds good to them. We don’t know when this will be available, but we expect these voice options to come out at the same time as WhatsApp’s new voice mode feature.
