An Indian student, Syed Mazahir Ali, who resides in Chicago, United State, was left seriously injured after an attack on Tuesday, 4th of February. A video of the same is going viral on various social media platforms where he is pleading for help and justice. Ali is a student at Indiana Wesleyan University.
A video shared on X; Ali can be seen profusely bleeding as he explains the horrifying attack. In the video Ali said, “I was walking down the road while carrying food, when four people caught me and kicked and punched me. Someone took my phone too,”. “Please help me bro, please help me” he added while describing the event, Ali recalled being chased by three men while he was returning home with food packages. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera near his residence in Campbell Avenue.
After the incident, Ali’s friends contacted his Wife, Syeda Ruquliya Fatima Rizvi, in Hyderabad. Syeda, wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar requesting assistance for medical treatment. Syeda said in an interview, “even though he was in better state he was not able to speak because of the trauma of the attack”. Meanwhile Ali was also seeing saying in the video clip of an interview, “This is something I cannot forget. He pointed a gun at me. There are two wounds on my head.”
There have been a lot of recorded events where in various part of United States series of attack has been committed against Indian students, in January 2024.
Last week in Ohio, Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student at Linder School of Business, in Cincinnati, was found dead. The Consulate General of India in New York stated on X, “Police investigation is underway. At this stage, foul play is not suspected.” Also, a week prior to this incident, Neel Achary, an Indian computer science and data science at Purdue University, Indiana, was reported missing by his mother, and later was found dead on campus.
On January 16, an MBA graduate in United States, Vivek Saini, became victim to a fatal attack within a store in Lithonia, Georgia, he was killed by multiple blows from a hammer by a homeless man. Akul Dhawan, an 18-year-old Indian-American student, was found dead with the signs of hypothermia on a back porch near the University of Illinois, on January 20.
