At the UN House in New Delhi, five women from Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh, who are part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, will present their transformative stories. These women ensure access to clean drinking water in rural areas and will demonstrate their methods, highlighting the mission’s impact on reducing water-borne diseases and creating employment opportunities. In exchange for stipends for each test, the five women are trained to use field test kits to assess the quality of the water, ensuring access to clean water for drinking.

Five women from the Bundelkhand district of Uttar Pradesh are going to share their transformation experiences at the UN House in New Delhi on Friday in order to highlight the important impact of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

A day before International Women’s Day, these women are setting an example of women’s empowerment. They will talk about how tap water, including job possibilities, enhanced the lives of the people of Uttar Pradesh and the villagers of Bundelkhand.

The five women are Rampyari, Baby, Sheela, Reena Ahirwar from Imilia village, and Bharti from Bamer village near Jhansi. These women, who are taught to use Field Access Kits (FTK) to measure water quality, have been giving access to clean water for consumption since the JJM arrived. They are paid Rs 20 every test. They will share their experiences and give a live demonstration of how to do these tests at the UN House.

Five women from each village receive FTK training to test the water quality while staying in the communities they belong to, making sure each residence in the state is given access to safe tap water. So far, 4.80 lakh women have gotten FTK training across the state.

On August 15, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide all rural households with functional household tap connections by 2024.
