Karni Sena Chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shot dead by three men at his Jaipur residence on Tuesday, December 5. This has shaken up the state which called for ‘Rajasthan Bandh’. The incident was caught on CCTV and was later posted on social media. Local authorities were quick to respond, initiating an investigation into the gruesome attack. Gogamedi was rushed to the local Metro Mass Hospital where his supporters and members of the Rajput community were gathered.
BJP being the winning party in the state claimed that it was a ‘revenge plan’ by the opposition party. One of the three men was killed by Gogamedi’s security guard, Ajit Singh. According to the Rajasthan Police, this incident was committed by the Rohit Godara gang.
“The murder of Shri Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi is very sad. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and strength to his family to bear this loss”, posted by the outgoing chief minister Ashok Gehlot on X as he condemned the murder. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat told PTI at the Parliament Complex, “Due to the threats that Karni Sena president late Sukhdev Singhji had received, he had filed a police complaint and also warned the administration about it. But unfortunately, security was not provided at the level at which it should have been provided.”
A video of the Late Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shared by BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala where Gogamedi said that police had input about his security threat but Congress CM Ashok Gehlot reduced his security.
To increase the security in the state as the protests are going on in various parts, Rajasthan Director General of police Umesh Mishra stated that the check posts have been set up to track down the two culprits. Gogamedi’s family and Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena said they won’t allow the body to be sent for cremation until the police arrest the two culprits and also that the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will not be allowed. As soon as the BJP came to power, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate called it a ‘return to jungle raj’.
