Arvind Kejriwal, the present CM of Delhi has decided to step down after leading the Aam Aadmi Party for 11 years since 2013. This decision was made with respect to the rising doubts against Kejriwal, the party members have confirmed his resignation has something to do with the recent statement saying – “ certificate of honesty”. This statement of his meant that he would only return to power as the Chief Minister if the people wanted him to. The new face of AAP was announced soon after the legislative party meeting as Atishi to take the oath by 4:30 this afternoon followed by Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation to Delhi Lieutenant Governor
In the legislative party meeting the MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party elected Atishi as their new leader which effectively shifts gears onto her becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Who is Atishi?
Atishi Marlena is a key face of the Party, and Arvind Kejriwal after being released from jail this Sunday announced Atishi as his successor to prove his certificate of honesty to people. Atishi holds most portfolios in the party like the Public Works, Finance and Education. She was responsible for spreading AAP’s spearheaded flagship programs across several schools in Delhi and around the nation. Atishi was a Rhodes scholar at the Oxford University, she will be the Bharat to Ram in the absence of Kejriwal.
The story of Atishi is garnering a lot of sound in the woman constituency, a 43-year-old woman championing the Chief Ministerial role replacing Arvind Kejriwal who is retiring later in the day. Atishi will be the third woman to hold the Chief Minister’s role in Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit.
There are raiisng concerns that AAP will see an evident reshuffling- there will be a series of changes followed by Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. One of the senior AAP leaders informed the media that there will be an addition of two new members to Delhi’s Council of Ministers. This idea circulated the party as Kejriwal leaving has created vacancies in the party to manage important government departments.
Gopal Rai said that Arvind Kejriwal will only return to power with the support of the people, till then Atishi will take over the role to stop BJP from bringing a hlt to the development made by the AAP government like the mohalla clinics and the good education that the children are receiving today.
