Amid Hemant Soren’s resignation and arrest, MLAs of Jharkhand Multi Morcha (JMM) are speculated to have shifted to Hyderabad due to poaching apprehensions; meanwhile, Champai Soren, the new CM of Jharkhand, requests the presence of governor C.P. Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in writing to give assurance of his majority appointment as well as his capability to sustain a stable government in the state.
- Resignation and the arrest of Hemant Soren:
Soren’s Delhi residence was scouted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. They allegedly uncovered a BMW and 36 lakhs rupees in cash, which they claimed belonged to scam the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader. According to the agency officials, Mr Hemant refused to sign the arrest memo till he turned in his official resignation at Raj Bhavan to C.P Radhakrishnan, the governor of Jharkhand. He was questioned for 6 hours in his residence at Ranchi on the issue of money laundering, related to a 600 crore land deal. However, Mr. Soren claimed that the agency officials chose to present “selective misinformation” and that he neither owned the money nor the car that was seized.
- State Transport Minister Champayi Soren Swears in as the new Chief Minister
In a surprising turn of events, Champayi Soren, the former transport minister for Jharkhand, was appointed as the new Chief Minister on the night of 31st January instead of the much-anticipated appointment of Kalpana Soren, Hemant Soren’s wife.
Earlier today, the new CM wrote a letter to CP Radhakrishnan, who is yet to administer his oath, requesting his presence at Raj Bhavan at 5 p.m. to address the political unrest along with assuring Mr Radhakrishnan of his capability to sustain a stable government in the face of that unrest.
- Poaching threat from the BJP
To deflect any pressure from the opposition on the MLAs of the JMM-led alliance, they will most likely be flown to Hyderabad in two chartered planes that have arrived at the Ranchi Airport in turn, avoiding the possibility of poaching.
