Meta released the largest version of its open Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, Llama 3 on Tuesday possessing multilingual skills and optimum performance capabilities challenging the likes of paid models that currently dominate the market. The new model houses various capacities including its ability to converse in eight different languages, solve advanced mathematical problems and generate superior computer codes than its previous versions.
The software now offers 405 variables that it takes into account while generating answers to user queries catapulting it ahead of the version that was launched last year. However, it still lags behind the market dominators such as Open AI which is alleged to consider one trillion parameters. Along with the launch of the current version, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg also announced the development of a superior version of the current software in Llama 4 next year. The gap between the stronger AI’s and Meta’s AI capabilities are expected to be bridged by this version expected next year.
Along with this version of the Llama 3, Meta is also expected to release lighter versions of the same software with 8 billion and 70 billion parameters boasting all the same features across its three versions. The software is also armed with a Llama Guard system that protects against concerns such as bad health advice or self-replication tendencies.
The Meta AI ecosystem distincts itself from others in its ability to be offered free to the users which according to Mark Zuckerberg ensures transparency and allows for better product development.
Meta has also hinted at amore integrated and optimized version of the software to be released at the end of this year that layers video, image and speech making it a better package altogether. Llama 3 is now considered to compete with the top models in the market like Chat-GPT 4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet. Early experiments have also indicated its integrated version that will be released later this year to be at power with other such models in the market like Gemini 1.5.
The release has come amidst a race between tech companies to develop their AI portfolios in terms of reasoning and other analytical capabilities.
