Heavy rains disturbing the entire machinery of the city have also disrupted flight operations in Mumbai. It has led to several cancellations and diversions thus affecting passengers who are now getting full refunds and as well one-time complimentary tickets from Air India.

Air India stated that due to heavy rains the flight operations are being hampered resulting in cancellations and further diversions of flight routes. Air India has also offered to give full refunds and as well as one-time complimentary tickets for bookings confirmed for travel on July 21, 2024. It has also recommended passengers to check up with the flight timings and statuses before the travel.

While several parts of the city have been issued orange alerts, domestic airline IndiGo has released a cautioning advice for the passengers who are traveling to and from Mumbai to monitor their flight statuses.  

IndiGo has stated out another advisory for the Mumbaikars where they have asked the passengers for a similar review in their flight timings and statuses due to the heavy rainfall which is only likely to increase in the upcoming 24 hours. 

In another related incident, a Vistara flight (UK696) was rerouted from Amritsar to Mumbai on Sunday due to incessant rainfall at the Mumbai airport. The flight was expected to land in Ahmedabad at around 12:15 hours, according to an official statement released by Vistara Airlines.

Similarly, another Vistara flight (UK822) was also rerouted from Chennai to Mumbai on Sunday afternoon. The airline posted on X, stating, “Flight UK822 from Chennai to Mumbai (MAA-BOM) has been diverted to Ahmedabad due to bad weather at Mumbai airport and is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad (AMD) at 13:00 hours. Please stay tuned for updates.”

Meanwhile, the administration has announced a school holiday for students on Monday for several districts including Nagpur, Vidarbha, Chandrapur and its surrounding areas due to a heavy rainfall warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department. The civic authorities have urged citizens to remain indoors unless necessary to step out. They have also urged citizens to avoid coastal areas and take meaningful precautions for the same.
