The Haryana Police have arrested one suspect in the homicide case of the Congress Worker, Himani Narwal (22). On the 1st of March, 2025, Hmani’s body was found in a suitcase near Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway. The murder comes just days before the scheduled municipal elections and it has sparked outrage among political circles and the victim’s family, who refuse to cremate her until justice is served.

The police identified the accused as Sachin, a resident of Bahadurgarh, who was reportedly in a relationship with Narwal. After the investigators found Himani’s phone and jewellery, with the accused, he was taken into custody and he stated that Himani had been blackmailing him, leading to a financial dispute. Authorities are  verifying his statements and suspect that more people may have been involved in the murder.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up on March 2 to investigate the case searching for additional suspects. Authorities believe Narwal was murdered at her house and was disposed of in the suitcase. The reason behind the killing remains under investigation.

Himanis mother, Savita, alleged that her daughter’s achievements in the Congress party made her a target. “The election and the party took my daughter’s life. She made some enemies because of her work. These perpetrators could be from within the party or even her friends,” she said.

Savita also mentioned that Himani was feeling disillusioned with party politics and was considering job opportunities outside politics. Despite this, she participated actively in Congress activities and was seen alongside Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The family has refused to perform Narwal’s last rites until all culprits are punished. Savita further alleged that Himani might have been murdered for revenge and also demanded for the death penalty of the accused.

Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called the murder “a brutal attack on democracy and women’s safety in the state” and demanded a high-level inquiry.
