Clashes erupted after a tenth-grade student was shot dead, and two others were injured in Sasaram, Rohtas District, Bihar amid two groups of matriculation students over cheating in an exam hall, according to the news agency PTI.

The incident led to huge protests by family members of the deceased and injured and the village members tried to block the national highways in Dehri protesting to demand justice regarding the violence. The authorities took the matter into consideration and intervened claiming that they would look into it and assured them to take swift action. 

The clashes erupted between two groups of students giving their Bihar School Examination Board’s (BSEB) which started on February 17 and will continue till February 25. “The violence erupted when a heated dispute turned into a violent clash where according to the police, one student suffered a bullet injury on the leg. In contrast, another was shot in the back.” Whereas, one student succumbed to his injury during his treatment in the hospital. 

The police have officially launched a complaint and are holding an investigation to identify the perpetrators. Subsequently, the news came into the mainstream media after a lot of people were seen resharing a video posted by a news agency, PTI, on various social media platforms. The video shows a long queue of vehicles lining up on the roads due to the blockage of vehicles on the road amid the protests.

Bihar has had a history of huge protests, and burning of trains amid the Railways exams, subsequently leading to the Bihar bandh in the year 2002. This protest erupted over alleged irregularities in the Railway Recruitment Board exam where the students set a train on fire and attacked the trains with stones. The government later suspended the exam and set up a committee to tackle the grievances of the protesting students.
