Punjab and Haryana High Court puts up a restrain on Haryana government’s decision to conduct a demolition drive in the Mewat region of Nuh district, which was the site of communal violence last week. The high court judge Justice G S Sandhawalia has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. He has also asked the state government to abstain from conducting any demolition activity until further orders.
The state administration has already bulldozed over 750 buildings in the district, including shops, houses, buildings and all sorts of illegal construction. lt bulldozed around 24 medical stores to the ground at Nuh. Amidst police deployment, the demolition also reached the Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College, Nalhar, in Nuh.
The government alleged that the demolished buildings were constructed on government land and were being used by people suspected to cause communal violence last week.
Post the communal clash, the state and the people have gone through a lot. Many houses were torn apart on the route on which the VHP procession was attacked in Nalhar, on Friday. The state authorities also raised shanties of refugees and migrants living in Tauru, 20km away from Nuh, on Thursday.
The Haryana Police has arrested several Rohingya refugees in regards with the violence in Nuh district. Some of them were identified as people pelting stones on VHP processioners from Sahara Hotel.
“We have identified a list of them who were involved in the violence and we have evidence for it and based on it the teams have arrested them”, Narender Bijarniya, Nuh superintendent of police told Hindustan Times.
The restaurant-cum hotel was under the radar of the Haryana government for demolition. The restaurant owner clarified that the video shown to him by the administration is actually a video from Sohna, not from Nuh.
